KPAIR00: Deblend Iteration Sequence

The following sequence shows 5 total interations. Although only 2 or 3 iterations are sufficient, the extra iterations are for demo purposes. Note: this is fully automated, no human intervention was necessary.

Galaxy A Galaxy B

Iteration 1: The blue galaxy is component "A". The neighbor "B" is recognized as a 2MASS XSC galaxy, and elliptically-masked according to the XSC shape (as stored in the WISE "g" parameters). Note the "mask" pixels are replaced by the local background. The galaxy ("A") is then processed as usual, with the final solution denoted by the blue isophote.

Iteration 1: The red (star-forming) galaxy is component "B". Now the neighbor, "A", has been removed (subtracted) using an ellipsoidal model of its light distribution. The galaxy ("B") is then processed as usual, with the final solution denoted by the blue isophote.

Iteration 2: Now instead of a mask, the component "B" has been removed using an ellipsoidal model of its light distribution.

Iteration 2: Neighbor "A", has been removed using an ellipsoidal model of its light distribution; note the residual (galaxies are not perfect ellipsoids).
